Lime Green Spring [New Project]

šŸ‹ Dressing with a zest for life

Bespoke Style is a personal style newsletter. I (mostly) wear custom and vintage pieces. My momā€™s a tailor and thanks to her, I grew up with the art of fashion and style in my DNA. Iā€™m sharing that with you in this newsletter.

Enjoy! - Johanna.

Itā€™s 7.30 am on a Monday, Iā€™ve got my window open writing this email, and I can hear the birds chirping. Itā€™s officially spring.

With that comes a seasonal drive to update my wardrobe. Gone are the winter days of somber grays, blacks, and navys.

I want color. Lots of it.

Isnā€™t it interesting how our surroundings affect how we want to dress?

When I go on vacation, I enjoy dressing alongside the vibe of the place (obviously, youā€™ve got to bring your cool clothes to London!). When seasons change, I crave for my wardrobe to reflect that. I enjoy pulling spring and summer clothes out of storage and putting thick sweaters, etc. away.

A Spring Outfit With a Zest for Life

Weā€™ve been working on a couple of ideas for new pieces for spring. Recently, on a visit to the fabric store, my eyes fell on a lime green cotton mix. It was just the perfect pop of color for the upcoming season.

The fabric has a bit of a techno feel to it and crinkles nicely. Generally, I prefer wearing all natural fibres. With this, the mix between cotton and synthetic works really well.

I was especially excited, when we got it, because it was the last bit they had and just enough fabric to make a two-piece from it.

Youā€™ll see how it comes together in the coming weeks.

Below is a first look!

The Advantage of Working With a Tailor - Personalized Cuts and Patterns

We decided to reuse a cut for the trousers/pants thatā€™s become a staple for me over the years. Itā€™s the same one as for this piece in electric blue silk.

When you work with a tailor, this is the very fun part: You can create a style and fit for a piece of clothing that really works for you.

From then on, itā€™s basically copy paste with different fabrics. Doing so is especially great, when you know the silhouette and look you want to dress with.

That way, it becomes an expression of your personal style. Only you will have it. Your clothes turn into an extension of who you are.

I enjoy that. I like looking like myself.

Letā€™s Make the Pants

Then we did the first fitting:

I felt the pants looked great, already. In the image on the far left, you can see that the pleats are still pretty deep. In the one on the far right, Iā€™m experimenting with flatter or no pleats.

Ultimately, I settled on keeping the pleats. The fabric has no stretch in it and I still want to be able to move. The pleats help with that a lot.

Iā€™m excited for this to come together.

Iā€™ll keep you posted on the next steps. I said it was a two-piece, after all šŸ˜.

Have a great start into the week,

Johanna
