Hot Pink Winter đź©·

A pop of color to beat the January blues!

After Christmas comes style purgatory. When the warm glow of the holidays has faded and months of drab, cold winter weather lie ahead of you, it’s the hardest time to get dressed with inspiration. Why even try, when everything is just meh?!?

Mid to late January, especially, is the trickiest time: Spring and its resurgence of color are still far away and the temperatures often ask for practical dressing. I’ve been bundling up a lot in the past days, sacrificing a couple of style points for practicality. Sigh!

It’s funny, though, that we handle winter dressing this way. When all you see is a sea of black and grey coats in the city, it adds to the general malaise. The sky is grey and so are the concrete, buildings, and the pit at the bottom of most people’s souls.

Wouldn’t it be much smarter to do it the other way around?

Wear as much color in these washed out months as possible to keep our spirits up?

Here’s an idea for that.

A Pop of Color to Beat the January Blues

I took this outfit out for a spin a little while ago and felt very sparkly inside and out.

Outfit Details:

Coat & Stole: Vintage, also worn here (the coat is still oversized, we haven’t gotten around to altering it, yet. The stole hides this quite well, creating a more voluminous appearance, overall.)

Sweater & Hat: Hand knit, a present from my mom đź©·

Pants: Vintage YSL. Just look at that color! I had to get them in their late 80s/early 90s glory.

Boots: Gabor (which is generally considered a brand for a more mature audience here in Germany - read: grandma brand. These dark red, patent, crocodile patterned combat boots are a standout piece, though. I was surprised to find something like this on their racks at a department store. It goes to show that keeping an open mind when shopping is a good idea!)

Silk Scarf: Vintage. Originally, it was used for the traditional clothing of my home region. I adapted it for my purposes. Ever the rebel. Tehe.

What do you think? Have you ever experimented with colorful dressing in winter?

To lifting our moods with the power of style,
