Bespoke Style is a personal style newsletter. I (mostly) wear custom and vintage pieces. My momās a tailor and thanks to her, I grew up with the art of fashion and style in my DNA. Iām bringing that to you with this newsletter.

Enjoy! - Johanna.
My favorite part about tailoring is the creativity. I love to dream up clothes!
In this and upcoming newsletters, I take you along the process of making a new piece of clothing. A transitional coat for spring - bespoke, of course!
When You Look at Fabric & the Ideas Start to Flow
Last weekend, I got together with my mom to look at fabrics. Playing with ideas for clothes is our shared creative love language. Weāve been doing that all my life.
Thanks to my experience growing up with a mom whoās a tailor, a master at her trade, Iāve been exposed to the rustle of silk and the softness of cashmere since I was a toddler sitting in her atelier, playing with buttons.
I love visiting fabric stores with my mom. When we see a piece of woven goodness and the sparks start flying. How about a coat? A long dress? A fitted blouse with contrasting details?
Itās so fun!
A New Piece for Spring
With spring on the horizon, we pulled out this fabric we got a little while ago.
Look at that dreamy mermaid color!
Itās a boiled, felted wool from a producer in Austria.
The quality of the felt is really nice. Itās thick enough to give you some warmth without making you feel toasty. I LOVE that itās sculptural, too. On a long piece like a coat it will look outstanding. Architectural, even. Urgh!
To give you a better idea of the fabric, I draped it over a chair. You can see how its structure holds it up even beyond where the backrest ends.
The coat will be great to wear from mid-February to late April and late September to mid-November, when itās cold out and a little less chilly than in the depth of winter.
And, look at that color! I picked it because it matches my color palette. And while itās an unusual color for a piece like a coat, it will combine really well with neutrals AND more intense colors.
SO fun! Iām excited.
What Will the Coat Look Like?
Youāll find out! Thatās half the fun of writing this newsletter. Youāll see the coat come together in my coming emails.
As a hint: Think long, sleek, and dramatic.
Have a lovely day,
Johanna
